Rakuten Mobile, controlled by board member Hiroshi Mikitani, acquired 28.5 million shares of AST SpaceMobile Class A Common Stock on October 10, 2024, through a series of mergers that converted its previous Class B shares and common units into the new equity stake. Following the transaction, Rakuten Mobile's beneficial ownership increased to approximately 31 million shares of Class A Common Stock. The transaction involved the merger of Rakuten USA subsidiaries into newly formed AST SpaceMobile subsidiaries, effectively restructuring Rakuten's ownership position in the company.
